Dog-Friendly Itinerary: Avon, Colorado

Avon, Colorado is the perfect dog-friendly mountain town to take your dogs for an outdoor adventure! Summer is the ideal time to go - it’s warm during the day and cool at night. Fall would provide beautiful foliage but would be cooler weather - which might suit your preferences just fine.

Where to Stay in Avon, Colorado?

We stayed at the Westin Riverside Resort & Spa and highly recommend it. They’re super dog-friendly with treats upon check-in and dogs are allowed in the lobby and on the deck. Also, there’s a paved trail just behind the hotel that runs along the Eagle River. We spent a lot of time walking and letting the boys swim in the cool mountain water. It’s so clear and beautiful!

What is There to Do in Avon, Colorado?

The main focus of your stay here is going to be getting outside - which is what makes it perfect for pups! Everything is walkable from the Westin so we explored along the trail. We went to Nottingham Park/Benchmark Reservoir - it’s a huge park with tons of areas to spread out. There’s an off-leash dog beach area from 6am-9am in the morning. The dogs loved that! We went to this park several times and loved it.

You can also take the gondola up Beaver Creek mountain to hike and explore up there. Dogs are allowed to ride the gondola up and back down. There’s also a lunch option up there.

Where to Eat in Avon, Colorado?

There are lots of food options, here’s what we tried:

  • Loaded Joe’s for breakfast - we went there both mornings. The iced coffee was excellent but I still crave their bagel sandwich - it has a real egg they cook there and it’s soooo good!

  • Northside Kitchen is supposed to have amazing donuts but they were packed and we couldn’t even find a parking spot so we’ll have to try it when we go back.

  • Vin48 - they have a great pet-friendly patio. The food was delicious. We had a charcuterie board, crab cake, steak and pasta. It was all so good!

  • Fattoria - again, they have a wonderful pet-friendly patio. The food was super yummy. We had calamari, pasta, wine and tiramisu for dessert. Delicious!

This was such a fun, relaxing weekend in the mountains - all four of us left feeling refreshed and had the best time! We will definitely be back to explore more of the area and do it all again! Have you visited Avon?
