Dog Travel Must-Haves

After taking my dogs to 20 states and 9 national parks, these are my recommended must-haves and things that make dog mom life easier. Some items may be affiliate links and I may receive a small commission at no cost to you. Hopefully this is helpful, let me know if you have any questions!

Dog Seat Barrier

If you have an anxious dog, this car seat barrier (we call it our police barrier, haha) is a lifesaver. Zeus loved going new places but hated getting there. He would try to get in the front seat, drool, shake. Once we installed this, he was so much better! It seemed to relax him. I don’t know if it was because he couldn’t see out as well or what. It was also so much more peaceful for us. A definite life saver!

Car Carpet Adhesive Mat

This was a gamechanger for my new truck - especially with husky fur! I applied this on the carpet and undersides of my back seats to keep the dog hair from weaving into the carpet. I can remove, vacuum the corners and reapply. So much easier to keep my car clean!

Dog Training Collar

These shock/training collars work so well for training your dog to be off leash. They vibrate to correct, so you don’t have to shock them. They also make a beep. That’s all it takes to correct them and get them to return if they aren’t listening. Highly recommend for off leash areas.

Memory Foam Dog Bed

This large dog bed helps protect from road noise and keep the dogs comfortable when we put the seat up. Zeus rode better on the floor than the seat so this dog bed allowed him to ride more comfortably. We have multiple of them and just bring one from the house when we travel.

Decked Cargo Glide

This is not sponsored or an affiliate link - and it’s pricey - but this has been the best purchase ever! No more climbing over the wheel well to get to things in the middle or back. We can fit our suitcases, cooler, tote with the dog stuff, so much more - slide it out and reach everything! It’s been a marriage saver, haha!

Dog Poop Bags

These are the best, I’ve bought them over & over. I buy the unscented because I can’t stand the fake scent on top of dog poop. I keep a roll in each door, a roll in the dog tote when we travel - they’re everywhere so they’re handy when I need them.

Dog Joint Support

These are the only joint support supplements that seemed to work for my dogs and they actually like them so they will eat them like a treat - huge necessity, I’m not shoving a pill down their throat every day. These helped Zues so much and I still give them to Bo.

Dog Life Jacket

These are a necessity if you take your dog to the lake, ocean, or out on the water. They’re pretty inexpensive and the handle on top is “handy”, haha! We’ve also used it to tie Zeus off when we forgot his collar and leash :-)

Dog Car Seat Hammock

We use this dog car seat hammock either to hang over the front seats or the back, depending on which we need to protect from dog hair. It has an open section with a net that can zip up that falls between the front seats so you can still talk to and touch your dog and the air can flow between the front and back seats. It’s very water resistant and keeps the hair from sticking to the seats.

Double Car Seat Cover

This is not big enough to cover the entire back seat but we use it to cover the double seat and then use a single seat protector to cover the individual seat so we can lift one side or the other. These protect really well from wet dogs, dirt, and dog hair.

Single Dog Car Seat Cover

I use this single seat cover for either the front seat or for the single truck back seat so I can lift and lower sections. These seat covers work really well to protect my seats from wet dogs, dog hair, dirt and mud.

Waterproof Truck Floor Mats

My truck came with my current floor mats so I don’t have these exact ones but they are highly rates. Weatherproof floor mats are a must if you travel with dogs. Heck, even if you don’t! I put the carpet adhesive on the carpet and then cover it with the floor mat.

Collapsible Dog Water Bowl

I have three of these - I keep one in each back door and then one in the tote for taking into the hotel. The carabiner hooks onto their leash for walks. They’re so handy.

Dog Food Mat

These are so handy for keeping the floor clean where their food bowls are - especially in hotels. I have multiple of them.

Healthy Dog Treats

Bo is obsessed with these - and they’re good for him! They only have five ingredients, which I can pronounce all of them, and chicken is the first one. I highly recommend these.

Dog Scratch Remover

Not necessarily for travel, although it could come in handy if your dog scratches wood while you’re at a hotel or Airbnb, this has been a miracle worker on my wood doors. Zeus would hit them with his paw when he wanted out - it doesn’t fill in the scratch, but it fills in the color and you can’t even see it anymore. I swear - it works!
